چکیده

Patients with atopic eczema present higher serum levels of total IgE and different pattern of cytokines, compared to nonatopic eczematous patients. This study aimed to evaluate serum levels of IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IFN , TNF in eczematous children in relation to atopic and nonatopic form. We enrolled 45 eczematous children and 12 controls. Total IgE and specific IgE against principal food and inhalant allergens were evaluated by UniCap1000 and levels of cytokines by Cytometric Bead Array System. The geometric means of levels of IL-4 were higher in eczematous patients than controls (P=0.036). Serum levels of IL-10 and IFN were higher in nonatopic eczematous children than in atopic eczematous patients and controls (P= 0.004, P= 0.003). Our data confirm that cytokines may play an important role in the pathogenesis of eczema: nonatopic eczema seems to be characterized by increased levels of IL-10 and IFN compared to atopic

Evaluation of the Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist and Immunoregulatory Interleukin-10 in the Middle Ear in Chronic Otitis Media With Effusion in Children With and Without Atopy

OBJECTIVES The role of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the course of chronic otitis media with effusion (COME) has been documented. However, there are fewer studies on the action of anti-inflammatory cytokines in the middle ear. We sought determine whether there is an association between COME and anti-inflammatory cytokines and whether there are any differences in the cytokine profile in COME chi...

The underlying mechanisms of skin inflammation in atopic dermatitis

The underlying mechanisms of skin inflammation in atopic dermatitis (AD) are not completely understood but inflammatory cell activation and dysregulated cytokine production appear to play a critical role in pathogenesis of AD. Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) is expressed by dermal endothelial cells and perivascular inflammatory cells in the atopic skin lesion, suggesting the involement o...

T helper 1 and T helper 2 cytokines in atopic children with steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome.

INTRODUCTION A higher incidence of allergic disorders has been documented in children with steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS); however, the role of cytokines associated with T helper 1 and T helper 2 cells is not fully elucidated. This study aimed to evaluate the role of T helper 1 and T helper 2 cytokines in both remission and activity phases among atopic versus nonatopic children wit...

Nitric oxide in children with persistent asthma.

OBJECTIVE To assess the difference in exhaled nitric oxide levels in atopic and nonatopic asthmatic patients treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, and to compare exhaled nitric oxide measurement with lung function tests. METHODS Cross-sectional study with 45 consecutively selected patients with moderate and severe persistent asthma, aged between 6 and 17 years, and treated with anti-inflammat...

Cytokine production from peripheral whole blood in atopic and nonatopic asthmatics..._Bettiol_00_Allergy

Background: The cytokine network is thought to be essential in orchestrating airway inflammation in asthma. Although evidence has accumulated to suggest that atopic asthma is a Th2 disease, much less is known about nonatopic asthma. Methods: We have compared the production of IL-4, IL-6, IFN-γ, and TNF-α from peripheral blood leukocytes between atopic (n = 21) and nonatopic (n = 22) asthmatics ...
